Men's Fashion Shoot | Mason

Photography is more than just taking pictures

Taking pictures is easy, taking pictures with meaning is a completely different animal. , it's Our goal as photographers is to not just snap a pic, but to capture a moment in time. Those moments can contain a wide range of emotions and events, from calm contemplation to rapid explosive outbursts. It's our job as photographers to showcase those moments, whether you are directing your models to act out something, or putting emphasis on specific spots in the photograph.

Photography is an art form: the model is the canvas

We as portrait photographers have a unique position in that we are using people to express our artistic voice. People are amazing canvases, they can express an enormous array of emotions, there are never two that are alike, even identical twins are unique from one another. As a photographer, I have gotten the privilege to work with models of all types, from beautiful glamor models, to super fit fitness models, and each of them bring a unique set of strengths to each shoot. I have to say it creates a fun challenge trying to take those strengths, and bring them to the forefront to make a dynamic and striking photograph.

Mason Jagielski: a new face in fashion

Introducing Mason, a model who has a growing pedigree not just in fashion, but also has a presence in the cosplay realm as well. I was more than happy to come up to Dallas and help him build his portfolio of images. It was a cold crisp winter day in downtown Dallas, and the setting, Old City Park, complimented the style of the shoot so well. Mason's style and personality is very old-school, so a rustic setting and a cool day was perfect for his shoot.

Capturing Mason's essence on film

The biggest challenge any photographer will have is putting the model at ease as he has a camera shoved in his face. Fortunately, Mason has experience in portrait photography, so he has an understanding of what it's like working with photographers. Once I got him in the mind set for the shoot, he was a natural. He took my instructions and ideas and ran with them creating some fantastic images.

In Conclusion

The goal for me in all of my shoots is to show the person in their natural environment, being themselves and showing their personality in the photos. This made the challenge a bit different because Mason was the first male model I had ever worked with, where I had been working with exclusively women for the last couple of years. However, I took it on with a new energy because I saw it as a question that I had to develop an answer. With that, I can confidently say I succeeded here, and I hope to keep getting new challenges like this with each shoot.
