The Premise of the Shoot

There are a few shoots that are considered Top-Tier from my time working with models. This shoot would be in that category without question. It was Fall of 2021, and the weather had been absolutely incredible, and I wanted to do a shoot with the leaves changing colors. Certain areas of Lubbock had trees that would change colors like the trees in the northern states, and I had to take the opportunity while I had it.

The Location

Lubbock Arboretum Memorial Gardens

I had driven by the arboretum multiple times while running errands, or going to school at Texas Tech. I had done a family shoot for a friend of mine out there earlier that year, and knew that would be the perfect place to capture some beautiful rustic feeling fall photos. Now to reach out to the model...

The Team

Another reason I pursued this shoot was that I wanted another chance to work with Ainsleigh, since I had only gotten to do the Jester Promo shoot with her, and I knew she would be able to do the job. I reached out via social media, and she was just as excited as I was to work together.

The Golden Hour

For those who don't understand what the Golden Hour is, its the time of the day where the sun is positioned to provide warm, golden sunlight, but it is a very small window of time, usually not quite an hour in total. I waited until the sun was just right, and we moved from the cover of the trees, out to a small pavilion in the center of the park area, which was open on all four sides, bringing in the warm light.

This was the moment I knew this shoot was going to be one of my favorites. I was practicing with my flash, trying to create some fill lighting with the strong evening sun behind Ainsleigh. What I saw in the camera was incredible, one of my favorite photos to this day. The way the sun shined off her hair and clothes, along with the soft light from the flash, these shots were absolutely incredible. These shots are still some of my absolute favorites, and are in my current portfolio.

Working with Ainsleigh

Ainsleigh is one of my favorite people to work with, a true professional, and a great friend. I honestly see her going places, and at the time of this blog, she had just won the title of Miss Lubbock, Texas. My guess, I could see her being Miss Texas, and possibly going even higher, but that's just my opinion. I have been blessed being able to work with her, and we are talking about an artistic shoot that we are going to try to do when I am back in the west Texas area. Stay tuned for that shoot, because I think it will be something incredible!
